Putin may start a new invasion of Ukraine through the autocephaly of the UOC

Putin may start a new invasion of Ukraine through the autocephaly of the UOC
The decision of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople to grant autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church may be the reason for a new invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine.
According to the editorial of the Financial Times, Cenzor.NET reports with reference to UNIAN.
The publication reminds that after three days of the work of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, the spiritual Orthodox leader, Patriarch Bartholomew, made a historic decision: he promised to grant the autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
In response, the ROC said it could break the relationship with Constantinople, which is potentially fraught with a split that can be compared in scale to the events of 1054, when the same happened between the Orthodox and Catholic churches.
As stressed in the article, this split between Ukraine and Russia has not only religious but also geopolitical character. He nullifies attempts by Moscow to keep Kiev in its political orbit and rebuild its influence on the post-Soviet space. He also strikes at the concept of the "Russian Peace," which, according to Vladimir Putin's plan, should include allegedly fraternal peoples of Ukraine and Belarus, partly linked to Orthodoxy.
Although the Moscow Patriarchate received the right to ordain the patriarch of Kiev back in 1686, the newspaper recalls that in the 1990s, after the collapse of the USSR, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate broke off from Moscow. And after 2014, when the Russian Orthodox Church refused to condemn the bloodshed in the east of Ukraine, the fractured UOC lobes markedly replenished.
Now, if in November Bartholomew is expected to give the UOC autocephaly, it will give a new impetus to supporters of Ukrainian independence. It may also increase the chances of re-election of President Petro Poroshenko, who actively supported the religious freedom of Kyiv.
At the same time, the Russian president is struck hard. Putin chose himself as an assistant to the Russian Orthodox Church in an attempt to restore Russia's status as a great power. With the rise of nationalistic and populist movements in Europe, he used the church to create an image of Russia as a bulwark of traditional values. And the loss of the Ukrainian patriarchy reduces Russia's weight in the Orthodox world and gives it less pretensions to claim the title of Third Rome. She also clearly demonstrates what his attempts to kill the wedge between Russians and Ukrainians could lead to.
From the Financial Times point of view, the danger of the moment is growing, as well as the fact that it all happens against the backdrop of the fall of Putin's rating due to the unpopular pension reform. In Kiev and in the West, fears that the Kremlin can use military force to protect the churches that remain loyal to the Moscow Patriarchate and to prevent their transition to the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Kiev. Potentially, such actions can threaten the new bloodshed.
Putin's popularity has sharply increased after the annexation of the Crimea, the newspaper recalls, and the weakness of the Russian economy can push the Kremlin strategists to similar maneuvers.
Recall that on April 19, the Verkhovna Rada supported the appeal of President Poroshenko to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to grant the Ukrainian Orthodox Church an autocephaly.
On April 22, Poroshenko said that the Ecumenical Patriarchate began to consider the request of Ukraine.
In July, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew confirmed his intention to donate autocephaly to the Ukrainian church.
On September 7, it became known that the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew appointed exarchs to provide autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church.
On October 9, the meeting of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate began in Istanbul.
On October 11, the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople decided to recognize the canonicity of the UOC-KP and the UAOC.
The anathema imposed by the Russian Orthodox Church on the head of the UOC-KP Filaret was also removed.
The decision of the Synod in Ukraine began the process of creating an autocephalous church.

The employee of Amnesty International Kozlovsky was kidnapped and tortured in Russia, - the statement of the organization
Observer Amnesty International Oleg Kozlovsky, head of the capital of Ingushetia Magas for monitoring protest rallies, was abducted, beaten and disciplined by the unknown, who were called security officers of the Russian Federation.
According to Censor.NET, this is reported on the website of Amnesty International.
According to the organization, Kozlovsky arrived in Magas on October 5 to monitor peaceful protests that began after the signing of the agreement between the leaders of Ingushetia and Chechnya on the definition of the administrative border between the two regions on September 26.
In the evening of October 6, unknown, who was called the representative of the organizers of the protest, lured Kozlovsky to his car under the pretext of organizing a meeting with the protesters. Instead, they were taken outside the city where they were stripped, began to beat and threatened to shoot. Execution lasted two hours.
"They put a gun on my head and said they were going to kill me." Men called the local center for combating extremism, they demanded me the names of my contacts in Ingushetia and threatened to kill my wife and children if I reported what had happened"- said Kozlovsky.
"This violent incident is shocking and anxious, but the authorities must understand that we will not be able to intimidate people who are hiding behind masks. We have filed a statement on the crime with the Russian authorities," said Amnesty International Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Marie Strasers.
According to her, the human rights activist was kidnapped in front of the hotel's staff and in the field of view of the surveillance cameras in the city, which, due to protests, was simply overcrowded by the police.
"Those responsible for this cowardly attack must be immediately found and brought to justice," added Strasers.
