No need to be: the EU decided what to do with the Britain after Brexit
Ambassadors of the European Union have decided to grant visa-free regime for British citizens after Brexit.
It is reported by the press service of the EU Council.
"The EU ambassadors today agreed that after Brexit British citizens who arrive in the Schengen zone for a short term (90 days in any 180 days) should be given a visa-free regime. The ambassadors authorized the President to start talks with the European Parliament on this legislative proposal. "- said in a message.
According to the EU rules, visa waiver is granted on a reciprocal basis. The United Kingdom Government has stated that it does not intend to require a visa from EU citizens traveling to Britain for a short stay.
"If the United Kingdom introduces a visa requirement for citizens of at least one Member State in the future, the existing reciprocity mechanism will be applied and the three institutions and Member States will commit themselves to act without delay in the application of the mechanism," said in Brussels.
Visa entry is provided regardless of whether the UK comes with the EU with or without a deal.
EU visa exemptions cover short trips of up to 90 days, and currently around 60 countries of the world use this system from Japan to Ukraine. Such a visa-free regime does not give the right to work in the EU.
