Young Russian journalists attending a summer seminar were advised by Moscow-based anchor Ernest Matskyavichuk to forgo the international standards of journalism given 'the new Cold War,' Komersant reports Aug. 5.
The anchor said he had abided by the international standards of journalism before but as the 'new Cold War' started he gave them up.
"Recall what kind of journalism we had in 1942 [the time of WWII with Germany]. Did journalists present both views on the problem? Did they cite the other side? "
"Let's first repulse [West's attacks on Russia]. We can criticize the authorities later, "he said.
"If you disobey you will not have an opportunity to publish your information or be heard," he warned.
The event was attended by nearly a thousand regional journalists and students.
