US military inflicted air strikes on positions "Islamic state" in Libya

US President Barack Obama agreed air campaign at the request of the Libyan authorities after the US military command recommendations.
August 1, in the Pentagon reported that the air strikes were carried out for the first time. Their goals, according to the American side, the Islamists were positions in the port city of Sirte, which is the birthplace of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
According to US Department of Defense spokesman Peter Cook, US President Barack Obama agreed air campaign at the request of the Libyan authorities after the US military command recommendations.
Peter Cook said that airstrikes in Sirte continue. The city is home to about 80,000 people. It is located between the capital Tripoli and the Libyan city of Benghazi.
Since 2011, since the removal from power and killing of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, much of the country was plunged into chaos.
Libya currently vying for power two governments, and several groups, among them also "Islamic state" are fighting for control of the oil fields.
