French prosecutors suspect ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy of receiving bribes for victory of Qatar's bid to host the FIFA World Cup.
The Daily Telegraph writes with reference to sources close to the investigation.
According to the publication, investigators believe that Sarkozy could get money during the operation, which resulted in the Qatari fund acquired a stake in the PSG football club in France. This could also happen when the Qatari state investment fund bought shares in the French waste recycling company Veolia.
This is not the first scandal related to the holding of the tournament in Qatar and the mention of it in the name of Sarkozy. In May 2015, the prosecutor's office in Switzerland launched a criminal case in connection with the requests of Russia and Qatar to host the World Cup.
FIFA president Joseph Blatter, on October 29, in an interview with Financial Times, said that the decision to surrender the right to conduct World Cup 2018 was approved by FIFA leadership as a result of a "secret deal." The same operation foreseen that the World Cup-2022 would reach the United States.
But then, according to Blatter, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has persuaded UEFA president Michel Platini to support the candidacy of Qatar, who also claimed to hold the championship in 2022.
