In USA, nearly 500,000 pacemakers will be recalled because of the threat of a cyberattack
The US Food and Drug Administration has recommended recalling 465,000 pacemakers to update the software.
This is reported by Vice .
The department recommended to do this because of the potential vulnerability of medical devices to remote cyber attacks.
This list includes several models of Abbott, formerly St. Jude medical
In the management said that it is about updating the software for the sake of caution. This does not involve removing and reinstalling pacemakers.
-In August 2016, the company Muddy Waters, which sells securities, said that pacemakers St. Jude Medical is vulnerable to remote cyber attacks.
-In response, the company denied the allegations and stated that Muddy Waters would thus lower the cost of its shares.
-In 2017, the US Food and Drug Administration warned of the susceptibility to pacemakers and Abbot said they were updating the software.
