The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union (Coreper) has agreed to introduce an arms embargo on Venezuela and discussed prospects for further tightening of sanctions against this country.
This is reported by DW.
It is anticipated that restrictive measures should push President Nicolas Maduro to talks with the opposition and help resolve the escalation of the political crisis.
At the level of EU foreign ministers, the package of sanctions can be approved already on November 13.
The prohibition will also include the import of equipment that can be used for internal repression and equipment for electronic intelligence.
In addition, the EU plans to create a black list of individuals and organizations involved in suppressing opposition activists in the country.
