The European Union fined Google for $ 5 billion

Antitrust authority of the European Union fined Google for $ 5 billion for violating the conditions for fair competition in the Internet marketplace.

This is stated in a message on the EU site.

As noted, the fine imposed on the American Internet company is the largest in history.

The EU investigation is about Google's contracts with mobile phone manufacturers. In particular, the EU considers free competition to be a preinstalled on smartphones of the PlayMarket program, which pre-configured users to download the Google program itself.

Also, on smartphones using the Android operating system, there is almost no way to download apps from places other than PlayMarket.

Also, the EU has obliged the company to change the model of its operating system so and remove all restrictions for mobile application manufacturers.

Despite the record penalty, Alphabet, which owns Google, earns the same amount of money in 16 days.

Earlier, the EU has already fined Google for violating free competition rules for $ 1.7 billion for shopping search.

In 2016, the EU ordered Google to respond to a court's allegations of alleged abuse of the dominant position of the Android mobile operating system, which displaces competitors from the EU market.
