Facebook can be the first to be penalized for 4% of its global revenue by protecting user data.
It is reported by Interfax.
As it is noted, the total amount of fine for Facebook can be $1.66 billion.
The Irish Data Protection Commission can penalize a company, because the main European office in Facebook is exactly in this country.
Currently, the Irish regulator has just started an investigation, but in case of blaming Facebook for leakage of data, it does not exclude a litigation procedure for fining.
Recall that on September 28, Facebook announced a hacking attack that has hit at least 50 million users worldwide. Another 90 million people have been advised to take security measures.
The company says it found a mistake on September 25 and only 3 days later began its own investigation. Facebook hoped that they would be able to figure out how "an error was used and who".
Recall that on August 2, the Security Director of Facebook resigned . Alex Stamos called the three years of work "a very difficult period." Now he will teach at Stanford University.
The activities of Hermosa were previously criticized in connection with a scandal with Cambridge Analytica, which illegally accessed the data of about 87 million social network users and could affect the election of many countries in the world, including the US presidential election in 2016, as it worked on a presidential campaign Donald Trump
Zuckerberg acknowledged the mistakes of the scandal regarding the use of personal data. Facebook has blocked access to any services for Cambridge Analytica.
The founder of Facebook has lost more than $5 billion through the data stream of 50 million Facebook users.
