The United States has refused to participate in the UN Global Compact on Migration
Sun Dec 03, 2017 1:15 pm
On Saturday, December 2, the United States declined to participate in the United Nations Global Compact on Migration.
A United Nations Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Niccole Haley, told Twitter on this.
The reason for such a decision is "inconsistency with the interests of the country."
"The New York Declaration contains many provisions that do not comply with US policy on migration and refugees, as well as the principles of the Trump administration," the statement said.
Hayley points out that the United States must determine its own migration policy: how to control the border and who will be allowed entry into the country. She also added that the United States will continue to help migrants and refugees all over the world.
Recall that on October 19, the Committee on Internal Affairs of the European Parliament supported an automatic system for the distribution of refugees.
According to the UN, in 2017 more than 2 million people became refugees.
