US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel at the UN Security Council was not supported by anyone.
This was reported by Deutshe Welle.
UN Security Council held on Friday, December 8, an emergency meeting on the recognition of the United States Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.
All 14 member states distanced themselves from Trump's unilateral decision and criticized it. However, taking into account the veto power of the United States, the Soviet Union did not accept any joint statement or resolution.
A representative of Egypt in the UN called the decision a "dangerous precedent", and diplomats from Great Britain, Italy, Sweden and (not represented in the Soviet Union) Germany made a joint critical statement.
This decision, according to representatives of European countries to the United Nations, "is not in accordance with UN resolutions" and "will not help in establishing peace in the region."
United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nicky Haley, assured that the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital "for the sake of peace".
"I understand the fears of the members who convened this meeting. All the changes take place hard, but we must never forget what the truth can achieve, "she said.
At a meeting of the Council of the Interior, the Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations, Danyon called on all states of the world to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer their embassies there.
Recall that US President Donald Trump has announced the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel , as well as the intention to relinquish the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The American Embassy is currently located in Tel Aviv.
The Israeli prime minister supported the decision of the American president.
This decision by Trump caused a lot of protests around the world. Thus, in the Palestinian territory, in particular, the portraits of Trump were burnt, and the Hamas movement promised to arrange a "day of anger" on December 9th.
Palestinians consider the eastern part of Jerusalem to be its territory. Her Israeli army was repulsed in 1967 and annexed to the rest of the city by a resolution of the parliament in 1980.
The UN considers East Jerusalem to be an occupied territory, while the Israeli authorities consider it to be its own.
