Japanese pharmacists have announced the creation of a drug against the flu, capable of killing the virus during the day
According to Science Alert , it operates much faster than existing analogues and requires only a one-time reception.
The main means of fighting the flu remains vaccination. There are few drugs that are already being treated by a sick person - the fact is that it's difficult to affect a virus that has managed to penetrate into cells.
The Japanese company Shionogi decided to change the situation by applying to the flu the experience it received in the development of anti-HIV drugs.
Usually anti-influenza drugs are aimed at stopping the spread of viral particles from already trapped cells. The new remedy affects earlier, at the stage of infection of cells by blocking metal enzymes. Interestingly, this enzyme was similar to HIV and influenza.
The study showed that the drug developed by Shionogi killed an influenza virus in the body of the patient for 24 hours. This is much faster than any of the available analogues on the market.
For example, Tamiflu's popular remedies require three times more time. According to researchers, the rapid destruction of the virus reduces the risk of infecting others.
With regard to the symptoms of the disease, then their complete elimination of Shionogi requires as much time as Tamiflu. However, immediate relief from the new drug comes sooner. In addition, it's enough to take it once and not drink for five days like Tamiflu.
Currently, drug testing is ongoing. The impressive results of the first tests forced the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche to acquire a license to distribute it.
Drug use in Japan may be approved in March, but its appearance in the US and other countries should not be expected before next year.
-Researchers have long known that flu virus can be fought with ultraviolet radiation. However, the doses needed for this can damage your health and cause cancer and vision problems.
-The new discovery showed that it is possible to use the distant UV that is not so harmful to humans , so using it in hospitals, schools and other public places will provide an effective method of fighting both seasonal epidemics and large-scale pandemics.
-There is evidence that food on your plate may affect cancer growth or the appearance of metastases (the spread of cancer to other parts of the body), according to British scientists from Cambridge.
-Scientists have discovered that the role of heredity in the early development of intelligence is often exaggerated , and the formation of IQ is much more influenced by the environment and education at the beginning of life.
