The Turkish army has announced the collection of the commanders of military units on the border with Syria to discuss plans for a possible invasion of the territory of a neighboring state, writes local newspaper Hurriyet.
According to the newspaper, the meeting should be attended by teams with tank and mechanized infantry units and special forces units. The meeting will be held after the generals visiting the border fortifications of the Commander of the Army Gen. Hulusi Akar.
Turkey currently supported on the border with Syria group numbering about 54,000 troops. The newspaper writes that the Turkish authorities can send across the border more than 400 tanks and armored vehicles; part in the operation of military aircraft will also be discussed.
Earlier, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the plans to invade Syria out of the question, but Turkey "will not waste time" in the case of threat to national security because of the Syrian border.
What could be the problem in such a mission is not yet clear. Turkish authorities have power against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but fear gain groups controlling northern territories "Islamic state" and Kurdish forces, leading a successful struggle against the Islamists.
