Russian President Vladimir Putin's meeting with American leader Donald Trump will be a key point that will determine the further course of events in the Donbas.

It is noted that on the eve of the meeting with Trump Putin, it will be necessary to take certain steps, as well, since, among other things, Ukraine will be discussed, the absence of active Russian actions in the Donbas and reports on escalation in the region will be discussed.

"Putin expects that, after a slight calm, which, obviously, will last until July 16, the issue of Ukraine will not stand so sharply in communicating with the US president. The relative calm of the Russian occupation troops in the Donbas is explained by two factors: the holding of the World Cup and the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump . The tactical issue is, first of all, to complete the World Cup. We see that Russia has gained even more from this championship than it wished, that is, it showed its attractiveness, showed that it was not a beast, but a state with a human face. We see what kind of information campaign accompanies this, in particular with the participation of foreign media. In terms of image, this measure was even more successful than the Kremlin assumed.

The strategic issue is Putin's meeting with Trump, in the eve of which he needs to go some steps and show himself. At this meeting, Ukraine will be discussed. And, understanding Trump's impulsiveness, Putin needs to have no reports of escalation on the eve of the meeting, about any active actions of Russian troops in the Donbas.

But while we can not assume that Trump will offer Putin, will he be blackmailed. That is, what may be the terms of the bargaining. Therefore, it is theoretically possible to assume that Putin after his meeting with Trump can greatly weaken his presence in Ukraine. The European Union will ask the United States to release the Ukrainian political prisoners of the Kremlin as one of the forthcoming talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This was announced by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, according to the results of the XXth Summit of Ukraine-EU.

"I will continue to call for the immediate release of our prisoners. I hope that this issue will be part of the meeting between Trump and Putin in Helsinki. I will meet with the US ambassador today and I will convey this message to them, "Tusk said.

He emphasized that the image of Russia depends not only on the conduct of the World Cup, but also on policies and international law.

"I hope that Russia will have a positive decision on the release of the prisoners," said the President of the European Council.

The decision of the European Union to provide Ukraine with macro-financial assistance loans worth 1 billion euros came into force on Monday, July 9.
