Russia will veto the United Nations Security Council resolution on establishment of a tribunal over the Malaysia Airlines MH 17 crash in eastern Ukraine if the document enrolls required nine votes.
Russian Permanent Representative at the United Nations VItaly Churkin said Monday, Censor.NET reports citing Russian TASS news agency.
"We will vote against. I have no doubt about that. If the resolution enrolls nine or more votes, we will veto it," he said.
However he said he was sure the resolution would not be passed and noted that those advancing this resolution were obviously seeking to "create another hotspot of confrontation that might have far-reaching impacts on international relations."
It should be reminded that the Malaysia Airlines MH17 passenger Boeing plane was shot down over the Donetsk region of Ukraine controlled by the Russian-backed terrorists on July 17, 2014. All 283 passengers and 15 crew members, citizens of 10 countries, were killed in the attack.
According to the preliminary findings of the international investigation, the cause of the crash was the external impact on the airliner. The basic version of the catastrophe causes is the surface-to-air missile launched by the Russian crew from the Buk anti-aircraft missile system that arrived from the Russian Federation.
Since most of the victims were citizens of the Netherlands, the investigation of the crash was performed in this country. Russia stands against the establishment of the tribunal.
