For the first time, a link has been established between the Syrian government's chemical weapons stockpile and the chemical attack using sarin in the Guta oasis (Damascus suburb) on August 21, 2013, which, according to various sources, killed between 281 and 1729 people.
It was reported by Reuters , referring to tests conducted by the Laboratories of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Recall positions in the Guta oasis since the start of the civil war in Syria in 2011 and still hold rebels supported by the West.
According to anonymous sources, the markers on samples taken at Gutti coincide with the markers on samples taken at the site of other chemical attacks: Khan Al-Asal in March 2913 and Khan-Sheikhun in April 2017.
According to diplomatic sources, these findings are the main report of the United Nations Commission on Occupational Safety and Health on the chemical attack in Khan-Sheikhun, where responsibility rested on the forces of Assad. However, this report did not include information on the involvement of government troops in the attack on Burma in Guti in 2013, as the Commission's mandate did not apply to this.
"As in all science, this should be repeated several times, but it was a significant match and a serious laboratory work," said one of the interlocutors of the agency.
Independent experts, however, claim that these findings are the strongest scientific evidence to date that the Syrian government is responsible for the chemical attack in Guti.
Recall that the United States, the EU, the League of Arab States and other countries claimed responsibility for the use of chemical weapons in Guth against the Syrian government, but Damascus and Russia accused the Syrian rebels of this.
