In Catalonia, supporters of independence are leading parliamentary elections - exit polls

In Catalonia, in the early parliamentary elections, the results of the exit polls are dominated by supporters of the region's independence.

This is reported by the local edition of La Vanguardia.

Most of the seats in the parliament, namely from 67 to 71, may receive supporters of independence - "Left Republicans", "People's Unity Candidates," and "Together for Catalonia" block.

In total, the parliament of the region has 135 seats.

In two hours before the closure of polling stations, the turnout was about 68%, which is bigger than the previous election in 2015.

Recall that early December 21 in Catalonia began early elections to the regional parliament, announced after the withdrawal of the government of Carles Pucdemona.

Recall that on October 27, the Spanish Senate suspended the autonomy of Catalonia by applying 155 article of the constitution. Thus, the region introduced a direct management of Madrid. Article 155 was first applied since 1978.

After that, Madrid dissolved the Parliament and the Government of Catalonia .

On October 31, the Spanish Constitutional Court suspended the Declaration of Independence of Catalonia.

On October 1, a referendum on independence from Spain took place in Catalonia. It was reported that the Spanish police used rubber bullets against supporters of the independence of Catalonia. Premier of Spain Mariano Raho refused to call the vote in Catalonia a referendum on self-determination.
