The Twitter social network in May and June blocked more than 70 million accounts suspected of spreading misinformation.
This is reported by The Washington Post with a link to its own sources.
It is noted that in recent months, social network blocked more than a million pages a day, and this trend continued in July 2018. This figure has more than doubled since October, when Twitter reported to Congress about fake accounts that Russia has allegedly created to propagate and influence the outcome of the US presidential election.
The Washington Post stresses that such mass blocking of pages in the social network has never been.
The source, aware of the situation, also told the newspaper that such massive "cleaning" of the accounts could lead to a decrease in the total number of users in the second quarter of 2018. It should be noted that Twitter has more than 300 million active users.
Earlier, it was reported that the Twitter accounts associated with Russia during the presidential election in the United States nearly 500 thousand times distributed messages of the then candidate, Donald Trump.
In February 2018, Twitter announced an increase in the fight against bots.
